A day of Community
For many years we have been blessed by Taycheedah Correctional Institute's staff who work with inmates to prepare the meat. Volunteers serve a sit-down meal complete with turkey, ham, dressing, potatoes and gravy, corn, a dinner roll, cranberry sauce, and dessert. Beverages offered are water, milk, coffee, and hot apple cider. The hall stands decorated for Christmas while singers and musicians perform holiday music during the entire event.
Everyone is invited to attend this free event. No reservation needed. This is open to anyone who is alone, unable to prepare a meal, or just wants to share in the day. Transportation is provided for those unable to drive and deliveries for up to four meals are available to the home-bound individual and up to three guests.
Leaders began forming the Fond du Lac Community Christmas Dinner in 2000 when members of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul aided Kosta Voulgaris, former owner of Oasis restaurant, with his mission to provide the community a place where no one need be alone at Christmas. When Kosta sold the restaurant 3 years later, the remaining leaders were joined by members of Memorial Baptist Church who continued to work side-by-side in carrying out this important tradition.
